Clive Carr paints for pleasure. This began in 1983 as a holiday recreation. Then In 1997. The inspirational teaching of Robin Child awakened his understanding.
He has had three prime influences: Robin Child, who guided him through the theories, innovations and movements of art from Cezanne onwards and developed his knowledge of the organization and structure of paintings; Charles Reid (the late American Watercolourist) and Jonathan Ellis, who further encouraged him to realize his creativity.
His style is figurative, but tending – sometimes strongly – towards abstraction. He has worked in a range of media including oil, acrylic and watercolour.
"I greatly enjoy the immediacy and directness of drawing, which is more or less under my control. By contrast, what attracts me to painting is that, at some stage, the process seems to take on an impetus of its own- a dynamism, which is exciting and unpredictable."
